One of the many great loves in my life is music. essentially music is my answer to everything, for every emotion, feeling and situation in my life there is song that describes each and everything/event. Most of the time i think that if i had to compile my own soundtrack for my life, it would make me seem very bipolar.
so under the heading of music & lyrics (which is also one of my many favourite movies – if you have not watched it, please just… just go watch it), i will be sharing/reviewing music that’s heating up my radar.
so ladies and gentlemen, are you ready?
he is someone that i would love to one day interview, he’s lyrics are catchy and his latest album can be described in 3 words : SEX, MOTOWN-FUNK AND HEAVEN.
Weird description? Let me elaborate…
Peter Gene Hernandez, ring a bell? No? Don’t worry, I also never knew that was his real name… but the name I do know, Bruno Mars. Yes, now we on the same page. This singer-song writer and record producer first caught my attention and I’m sure many others when he featured on B.O.B’s track ‘Nothin on you’- which he also co-wrote. And so began my musical love affair with Mr. Mars.
In 2010 his debut album Doo-Wops & Hooligans was released, which the lead single ‘Just the way you are’ reached the Billboard Top 100 and soon after his second single ‘Grenade’ was just as successful. In October that year his album reached number 3 on the Billboard 200, this had given Bruno amazing reviews and on February 13, 2011, Mars won his first Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, having received six nominations; Best Rap Song and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “Nothin’ on You”, Record of the Year for “Nothin’ on You” and “Fuck You“, Song of the Year for “Fuck You”, and Producer of the Year, Non-Classical at the 53rd Grammy Awards.
Okay so that was then.
December 2012, Bruno released Unorthodox Jukebox, the first single of the album to be released was ‘Locked out of heaven’, a reggae-rock-pop concoction which he also performed at the Victoria’s Secret show. I kind of, sort of, well maybe just a taaad bit became obsessed with this song. It was so good!
Now it’s quite obvious that once I finally got his album, it would be on repeat. Yes, matter of fact I cannot stop listening to it.
WORTH THE PURCHASE.
This album is as diverse as the singer himself. The lyrics are deep and meaningful.
My favourite track f the album is ‘Treasure’ – that beat that it begins with reminded me of Michael Jackson’s Rock with you, it has this smooth clean beat, which really makes me just wanna dance.
here’s a couple of my fav tracks of the album :
WHEN I WAS YOUR MAN
THIS IS MY ALL TIME FAVOURITE COVER OF AMY WINEHOUSE’S VALERIE, A TRIBUTE TO THE LATE, GREAT SINGER.
brings me to tears
Now, it is said that the way a person dresses says a lot about their personality. Bruno’s style is very simple.
lots of love
